Adding Value To Your Home With Exterior Plantation Shutters

Plantation Shutters Add Curb Appeal

When you invest in your first home it is very rarely the last home that you will ever own. In fact, research suggests that the average length of time a homeowner lives in their home before selling it is around 7 years. Of course, while you’re living in your home you want it to look nice, but you should also consider what you can do to upgrade the home during that time so that future buyers will have a great first impression. Exterior plantation shutters are simply one way to do so by adding just a little more curb appeal!

From the moment a potential home buyer pulls up in front of a property they are on high alert, taking in every detail. Imagine them seeing high quality, beautiful shutters upon arrival. If potential buyers see something elegant right away, they have a better chance of sticking around. There’s just a timeless look about plantation shutters that makes many people stop and pay attention. Adding exterior plantation shutters doesn’t just make for a pretty view; however, as the exotic hardwood also adds re-sale value to the home.

Of course, we aren’t suggesting that you have plantation shutter installed just so that someone else can enjoy them later on in life! You can certainly show your home some love and enjoy the view of exterior plantation shutters while you are living there. Now is a beautiful time to have custom shutters built and installed before the colder months arrive.

If you would like to inquire about any of our hardwood types or you’d like to get started with your next plantation shutter project, please consider Kirtz® Shutters. We can help you from start to finish on your project to help determine what look is right for your home. You can give us a call at 1-800-416-6455!

Plantation Shutters Should Be Made From Wood

3 Pros of Real Wood Plantation Shutters

Whenever you’re buying plantation shutters, one of the things you need to consider is the type of material your shutters are going to be made from. There are 3 main types of materials for shutters. These include; wood, synthetic, and a composite. Kirtz Shutters is here to explain why wood is the best material in the long run.

Investment: There are many reasons that wood shutters are a great investment. Wood provides a clean, timeless look that last for years. Synthetic plantation shutters have come a long way in replicating wood, but there’s a real texture that can’t be matched by synthetic or composite materials. The biggest reason to invest in all wood shutters is that they can increase your home’s value. Home-Buyers know the value of these shutters and will pay extra for them.

Flexibility: Wood is an easier material to work with over synthetics. Wood can be finished and re-finished to match a room as it changes over time. Meaning you don’t have to buy new plantation shutters every time you want to change the look of a room. Additionally, authentic wood shutters come in a wide variety of colors compared to their synthetic counterparts. The classic look of real wood also blends well with many styles giving you more flexibility when designing a room.

Light Control: Plantation shutters made from true wood also give you more control over the amount of light in your room. Shutters can close completely to keep the sun totally out. You also have a larger range of angles to maneuver the light around, which means that you can always make a room look its best no matter where the sun is shining inside.

Wood shutters can last for years and add a peerless, classic look to your home. Call us today to learn how you can get some of the best plantation shutters around! Call Kirtz Shutters at 1-800-416-6455!

Updating your home with KIRTZ SHUTTERS

I had the foresight on this recent project to take some photos before, so you can truly see how stunning the after can be with the right window treatments.

Initially the windows had been treated with faux wood blinds by the previous homeowner.  The new homeowner loved the look of shutters and, like many parents, had safety concerns with the lift and tilt strings on the wood blinds.

Take a look at the transformation!

The only thing I hate about these photos is that they don’t show the awesome view you get with a 4 1/2″ louver on a plantation shutter.  To get them open enough to show that detail, the sunlight is so bright you can’t see anything at all!  But, a 4 1/2″ louver is on 4″ spacing, meaning you only have a louver every four inches.  Clients are AMAZED at how different that can make a room look.
These next photos show how a Kirtz Shutter (especially a large louver)  really does make a space feel more grand!

Another question I am often asked… “Should I leave those second story windows open?  I love the natural light!”   Personally I sway back and forth on my answer to this question, but here is a look a a room where we did leave the windows open.
