Walnut Plantation Shutters

Known as the king of the gunstock woods, and the aristocrat of fine craftsmen, walnut has a prominent place in woodworking.

Growth Region

This hardwood is found in more than half the United States, mostly from Western Massachusetts to Kansas.

Graining and Color

The well-known color of walnut varies from a light grayish brown to a chocolate brown. It is the darkest hardwood available in a wide range of specifications. The grain pattern can be straightforward to highly figured depending on the cut and the tree.

Finishing Walnut

Walnut is known for its versatility. In addition to standard staining processes, it can be bleached or pigmented, distressed or finished glossy. Many people prefer a clear finish on walnut. This provides natural variation in depth and richness of color. To achieve color uniformity, staining the wood prior to clear finish coats being applied is recommended, especially for use on our walnut plantation shutters.
