Motorized Shutters, TLC by KIRTZ

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Motorized Shutters

We are proud to introduce TLC, or technical louver control, our new motorized shutters from Kirtz Shutters.

In development for over two years, this motorized feature is now available on Kirtz plantation shutters. It can also be retrofitted to existing Kirtz plantation shutters.

TLC is unique geared system of motorization that offers drastic improvements over the technology that has been available before today.

The SYSTEM
We use a patent pending right angle gearbox contained in the stile of the shutter to adjust the louvers. Premium quality brass gears resist corrosion and offer excellent durability.

A small, 6-Volt motor drives the gear box that turns the louvers. The
4 AA Lithium batteries that power the motor insure a long life of operation and are easily replaceable for minimal maintenance.

The motor operates with Radio Frequency transmission. This allows transmission from up to 65′ away from the motor, making motorized shutters a perfect solution for second story, difficult to operate windows.

AVAILABILITY
TLC by Kirtz is available on shutter panels that at least 12″ tall, and up to 120″ tall.

The System is compatible with standard tilt rods and the hidden tilt option, it is truly a versatile product.

Being Choosy with Window Treatments Matters

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Does it matter where you buy your window treatments??  Absolutely, more than you may realize.   An article posted on MSN revealed many blinds sold at places like Ikea, Pottery Barn Kids, Target, ect. are being recalled due to child deaths and strangulation’s.

You can view the article here http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32561933/ns/today-today_home_and_garden/

In my mind, this emphasizes the value of using a professional salesperson when you are choosing window treatments.

Most of us have a lot on our plate today, we don’t have the time to learn the ins and outs of every product we may want or need to purchase.

Enter the experienced window covering industry professional.

They provide such a critical service for consumers in terms of education and narrowing down products to options best suited for a homeowners needs.

In addition to knowledge, they typically represent industry leading brands that base their reputation and existence on long term customer satisfaction.  This includes using manufacturers who make child safety a top concern in the construction of their products.

Your window covering professional is a business person who likely lives in your community.  They aren’t a divison of a corporate conglomerate, they aren’t  a big box store with an ever changing staff, or a website with an automated customer service line.

They provide in home service, offer quality products with stringent safety standards,  and  provide you customer service that can’t be beat,  Sounds pretty good, right?  …… Give us a call and decide for yourself!

Triangle Windows (aka rake windows) and Plantation Shutters

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Architectural Shaped windows such as triangles, arch tops, ovals, circles and hexagons all present many challenges when choosing a window covering.

This blog is focusing on triangle shaped, or Rake Top window openings.

Plantation Shutters are a great choice for Rake Windows for several reasons

  1. You can treat the entire opening, not just the rectangle portion, thus allowing greater privacy and light control
  2. They are one of the only window treatments that once installed into the shape that are functional instead of fixed, allowing you to control the light that enters the room.
  3. Every type of triangle is possible.  Unlike other window coverings, shutters have no restrictions  on width, height or degree of angle, making even the most challenging of window possible.

Just as your window is an architectural statement for your home, the window treatment you choose should complement and enhance it.  If you choose shutters (which I hope you will) be sure that the company you choose makes all the louvers movable in rake tops with horizontal louvers.  See my earlier post about arch top windows for more info on that subject and why it matters.  If you order a burst shape, be certain that the center hub is in proportion to the size of your window so that your finished product looks like a custom piece of millwork that belongs in your beautiful window.

Custom Shutters from Kirtz Shutters do just that.  The photos below are  a couple examples of homes that used Kirtz Shutters to compliment their triangle shaped windows.

Company Lunch at Kirtz

Friday, February 20th, 2009
Last Thursday, Feb 12th, we had a company lunch at Kirtz.    It was a special lunch because everyone was treated to steak by Click’s Steakhouse in Pawnee.   If you live in the area and you haven’t been to Click’s, you are missing out.  Between the homemade rolls, steaks marinated to perfection and awesome desserts (I recommend the tollhouse pie) you will be amazed.    However, I digress.

The reason for this meal is workplace safety.  Every month The Shutter Mill is accident free, all employees are treated to a lunch.    That’s always great, but when we go 3 or more months with out an accident everyone is treated to steak for lunch.  Not bad, huh?

After the lunch we have a safety meeting, and also an update on what’s going on with the company.  This month we recognized two employees for five years of service at Kirtz.   We have an every increasing maturity in our work force.  More employees have been with us 5+ years than we can ever remember.    This seasoned group of employees greatly helps contribute to maintaining, and continually increasing, our quality standards and efficiency.    You can see it in every shutter that leaves here.

I guess that’s why we get the opportunity to install our shutters all over.  Last year we went to St. Lucia,  and the Bahamas for shutter jobs.  Right now I have jobs in process for Frisco TX, and Kansas City, MO — all because these people want the quality that Kirtz has to offer.

If you have a project, give us a call.  Have car (or plane ticket) —will travel.
