Custom Hardwood Shutters Oklahoma
It was the late 1980's and the oil wealth that had permeated Oklahoma for the last decade had vanished. Residential construction had slowed to a snail's pace making work, even for two skilled craftsmen, hard to find.
In 1987, Chris Tietz was finishing up a remodel project when the homeowner approached him with a request - Could he build her plantation shutters? Although Chris had never done so before, he accepted the challenge without hesitation. A month later, they had built and installed what was to be the first of many shutters.
After the job was complete, referrals began to pour in. Tietz discovered there was a strong need for furniture quality, handcrafted shutter panels. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, he co-founded "The Shutter Mill", a manufacturing facility dedicated to hardwood shutters, which is widely recognized by the name Kirtz Shutters.
Beginning as a two-man operation, they manufactured two shutter panels a day. Now, 20 years later, Kirtz® Shutters has grown to over 60 employees who manufacture numerous panels per day in its facility in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
In 2006, Chris Tietz took over sole control of SMI with the buy out of his partner. Chris is working to continue the long history of excellence that he has established, and looks forward to a bright future for SMI and the Kirtz® Shutter.
Throughout the past 20 years, the process has been adjusted and refined numerous times. The result has been a product that most industry professionals refer to as the finest crafted shutter available today, the Kirtz® Shutters.
